Orbital Blackout is a free 2D space MMO that runs on your computer. You pick a side in the war between the Solaris Accord and the Umbral Pact as the Devourment push inward, and every flight matters because a ship you destroy is gone for good.
Permanent loss changes every run
One rule makes it so that when your ship dies, it stays dead. Every hull, every upgrade and every cargo hold could be up for grabs on a bad jump.
What a veteran spent months building can be flying someone else's flag by morning. That's what makes every run matter.
The war
The Human space is split between the Solaris Accord and the Umbral Pact. The rings contested between the two nations are open PvP.
Beyond the rings, the Devourment are pushing inward. Swarms of Splinters, armored Wardens, elite Sunderers and worse are swarming toward the map. Nobody's map is ever finished.
Your fleet and loadouts
Every hull is an owned ship, with its own role from the tiny scout or industrial hauler to the line-of-battle dreadnought. It is fitted out with a weapons array, launchers, shields, engines, plating, utility gear, and drones in seven slot types.
Every tenth upgrade you bolt on a piece of hardware, either for a glass-cannon interceptor or a fortress.
Combat, loot, and live-space events
Turrets fire in real arcs and every hull has a blind side, including yours. Rockets and torpedoes run their own seeker logic and pick their own approach, so don't just focus on firepower.
Once you've won a fight in contested space, you can claim the other pilot's wreckage, which can include just about anything that pilot was hauling. Destroyed enemies can also drop Engrams or sealed Devourment boxes, which can be cracked open at any station for rare modules, stat-boosted assimilated gear, ship paints, titles and more.
From loot caches, to 30-minute player wrecks you can crack open item by item, to deep-space jackpots and a permanent collection system that keeps every flight potentially career-making.
Fair by design
Every ship, weapon, and upgrade is earned by playing. We offer optional cosmetics (paints, titles, small convenience items, and boosters that can speed up earning up to 10%, for a limited time).
No purchase makes you stronger. Skill decides who keeps their hull.
