The universe of Galactica - The roots was reset on 1 October 2026, and the first competitive season is now under way. Everybody started from an equal position, and the game is open to new players right now.
What kind of game is it?
Galactica is a free, tick-driven sci-fi strategy game that runs entirely in your browser. You begin with a single planet and grow an economy, a research tree and a fleet. Production, research, construction and fleet movement resolve once every 60 minutes, for every player at the same time. Your empire keeps growing while you are at work or asleep, and nobody gains an advantage by being online at 3am.
Joining mid-season
New players are not thrown in at the deep end. Every new planet starts under protection for about four days (72 ticks in the Collector galaxy, followed by 24 more ticks of protection), so you have time to learn how the economy works before anyone can attack you. A built-in tutorial walks you step by step through your first mines, your first fleet and your first attack on a mercenary outpost.
Eight species, eight ways to fight
Choosing a species is a permanent decision. Each of the eight species has its own tech tree, ship line and combat mechanic: from Cindrax ships that disable enemies with EMP instead of destroying them, to Korrath spies who steal ships, and Ferrokin with the strongest planetary defence. Battles are decided by ship-class targeting, formations and rank rather than by raw fleet size, and every battle comes with a report that explains what happened and why.
Fair play
Farm detection runs automatically on every battle, and multi-accounts are detected automatically and reviewed by a human before any penalty is applied.
Easy to start
Registration takes under a minute and works on mobile, with Google or Discord sign-in if you prefer not to create a password. There is nothing to download and nothing to install.
This is a full rebuild of the original Galactica, which first launched in 2003, made by its original creator on a modern codebase. Play now: galacticatheroots.com (https://galacticatheroots.com/en/welcome)
