Interstellar Empires official opening on September 1, the new world launched after almost two years of development and two open beta periods. Players start in a fresh world from their own planetary base and develop their economy, research, ground forces, and space fleets over time.
Interstellar Empires is a browser based space strategy game MMO. Progress is asynchronous. While a player is away, their empire will continue to build, research, train units, gather resources, complete missions, and explore the galaxy.
Two ways to explore and fight
One of the systems is the combination of the Galaxy Map and the Portal Network. Fleets travel physically across the Galaxy Map scouting for targets, gathering resources, hunting NPC, reinforcing their allies and attacking other locations.
Ground forces can also use the Portal Network to reach missions and discovered locations through a portal address. This creates a layer on top of the space fleets, as space fleets are affected by distance and travel time, while ground based actions through a portal are much faster.
Alliances and a shared galaxy
The official world includes all of the alliances created in the beta periods. Players can form alliances, reinforce each other, organise group rallies, contribute resources to the research of the alliance, to take part in common events, and to compete for strategic locations such as Trading Stations.
The galaxy also contains pirate fleets, unknown objects, asteroids, solar systems and other targets that become more and more important as the player progresses.
From beta to official launch
The two open beta worlds were used to test progression, combat, the economy, alliance systems, events, mobile usability, and the early player experience. A number of changes were made during development directly as a result of player feedback and from watching how people actually played the beta worlds.
With the official world online, we are shifting from our preparation for launch to continued development of a live game and its community.
